Missouri Water Heater Rebate Program
Customers of Missouri propane retailers may be eligible to receive certain rebates when they install new propane water heaters.
Rebates are provided under a program authorized by the Missouri Propane Education and Research Council (MO-PERC). The program is designed to assist homeowners in replacing expensive electric water heaters, or upgrading older propane units, with more efficient appliances. The rebates apply to both tank and tankless models.
Consumers may qualify for a $300 rebate when they install a new propane water heater in new construction or replace an existing electric (or other non-propane) water heater with a new propane unit. Customers may qualify for a $150 rebate when they replace an existing propane water heater with a new propane unit.
Buildings with multiple water heaters qualify for multiple rebates so long as the installations meet state codes and are approved by the participating propane company. Homebuilders are welcome to participate in this rebate program.
Rebates must be process by a participating Missouri propane marketer. In order to participate propane marketers must be registered with MO-PERC and must abide by program guidelines.
Consumers cannot apply directly to MO-PERC for the refund. The participating propane marketer must submit the completed refund application. The application must include a copy of the purchase invoice as well as a safety inspection report. The propane marketer does not have to sell or install the water heater, but must conduct a safety inspection to ensure that the appliance has been installed safely. Propane marketers may charge a fee to perform the inspection.
Rebate checks are issued in the name of the homeowner and sent to the propane marketer to deliver to the customer. Rebate applications must be submitted promptly to be considered. Rebates submitted more than 30 days after the date of the inspection report will be denied. Checks for approved applications are sent approximately six weeks after the application is received by MO-PERC.
In signing the application, the customer gives the propane marketer and MO-PERC the authority to inspect the installation. The customer also agrees to return the rebate amount if the water heater is removed or replaced within five years of its initial installation.
Rebate funds are subject to availability. The program may end without notice if funds are exhausted. Not all Missouri propane marketers participate in this program. Out-of-state residents who are customers of participating Missouri propane marketers are eligible to participate in this program. MO-PERC does not warrant the installation or performance of any appliance nor retains any liability for its failure, misuse or defect.
